MindfulDance

MindfulDANCE is a model I developed following a period of work with movement and emotion therapy in diverse environments. As a Dance Movement Therapist (DMT) I have integrated a movement and mindfulness environment with imagination, body and sense awareness and the use of a new and different contemplation through the language of movement and emotion.


MindfulDANCE is based on three principles:
- Be aware: awareness and mindfulness (embodiment and

                     connection)
- Be moved: liberation and mobility (release and authentic       

                       movement)
- Be alive: dedication to this moment (living the moment)

 

These three principles are intertwined and bound with a quality of curiosity. The method combines a curious, generous and compassionate awareness, with our senses, thoughts and emotions, while moving and dancing. In the MindfulDANCE environment, we practise mindfulness and acceptance of what is happening in our bodies and minds while dancing and moving. We enter a state of non-judgemental and noncomparative mindfulness, and complete awareness of rhythms, movement quality and various environments at a given moment. Thus, movement facilitates a release, expression and processing of all unprocessed bodily issues, and an expanded emotional range.
Practice improves bodily awareness, the reconnection to a full and complete feminine self, and enhances self-confidence, self-regulation and self compassion. 

 

Mindfulness 
Mindfulness is a process in which we focus our non-judgmental attention on this moment. In a state of mindfulness, we are present at this moment, aware of both internal and external memories, feelings, senses and thoughts, the sole objective of which is being present and fully mindful of anything that emerges. Extensive research demonstrates that mindfulness practice alleviates stress, fear, depression and other negative feelings. 

Dance and Movement
Movement marks the beginning of life. It is our first language and it is a person’s primordial, basic means of communication. Before language acquisition, we communicate through our bodies and movement. Throughout our lives, significant experiences, memories, trauma and events are embodied into our bodies. They constitute our lives’ journey diary. Parts of the journey diary remain unprocessed, untranscribed or unsymbolised within our bodies. They create formless spaces within our bodies or minds. The movement itself has a healing qualities. The movement as a way of expression, creation and soul reflection, connecting us to our deepest fears and widest range of our passions and self parts.
